Halloween is right around the corner,
which means the time for tricks, treats, and loads of candy has
finally come again! My personal favorite aspect of Halloween is
dressing up and becoming an entirely different character! For many, however, buying and putting on a costume is just absurd and annoying.
People like this often go year after year being pestered
by the Halloween-freaks who believe that not wearing a costume is unthinkable! I am definitely one
of the Halloween enthusiasts out there in middle and high school. But if you
are one of the numerous people being nagged each year, fret no more!
I have a solution! Follow my easy steps and you will have yourself a
sassy, inexpensive, and nag-free costume alternative in the blink of
an eye!
What you will need:
-Iron
-Plain Shirt
-Pillow Case
-Something Stiff Like a Cutting Board
-Iron On Transfer Paper (Type depending
on color of shirt.)
-Parchment Paper
Step One: Print out a picture of the
word “costume” onto the iron-on transfer paper. (Follow the
directions included in the package of iron-on transfer paper in
regards to which way the paper should face, type of inc to use, etc.
This will apply to many, if not all, parts of the project.) My
directions said to flip the image before printing, but this portion
may not apply to you. (Again - Read the directions on your specific
product) If you want, you can even download a fun Halloween font like
mine to give your shirt some hauntingly original personality!
Step Two: Cut out your word to the best
of your ability. If you use a black shirt, every speck of white left
on the paper WILL show up on the fabric. On a white shirt, the excess
paper won't show up nearly as much.
Step Three: Place your pillow case
around the cutting board as if you were putting a pillow inside it.
Stretch and center your shirt around the pillow case. Turn on your
iron to the cotton setting (or your iron's hottest setting).
Step Four: Place the word on the shirt
where you want it. Make sure the transfer paper is face down.
Step Five: Iron on top of the transfer
paper for a couple of minutes. The longer you iron, the better your
results will turn out.
Step Six: Remove and peel off the
parchment and transfer paper from on top of the shirt. You should be
left with the word cemented onto your shirt.
And you're done! Now you have a
comfortable and affordable Halloween costume without all the excess bells and whistles! I originally saw this DIY on the Disney Channel show “Wizards
of Waverly Place” and have loved the idea ever since. It's such a
great way to make a statement and show off a little bit of your sassy
side! So guys, if any of you AREN'T Halloween-freaks like me, then I
welcome you to try this spooktacular DIY! Stay crafty!
Great job! Your blogs are one of my favorite and I will surely come back weekly for more do it yourself projects!
